Star Trek was first aired on the 8th September 1966 although I have been told that it aired in Canada two days earlier. We didn't get it in the UK until July 1969 and it's a wonder that it became as popular as it did because the episodes were shown out of sequence and some were heavily edited because of the 'violent' content. The first episode we saw in the UK was 'Where No Man Has Gone Before' and so our first captain of the Enterprise was Captain James T Kirk and we loved him! Audiences were captivated by the charming and heroic portrayal... although some did feel he was a bit of a womanizer!!! |
